In Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, people of the Kuki community attacked the Superintendent of Police (SP) office on Friday evening. Many policemen including SP Manoj Prabhakar were injured in the attack. According to officials, the Kuki people are demanding the removal of security forces from Saibol village located on the border of Imphal East district. The community alleges that the SP has not removed the central force from the village. Officials said that the Adivasi Ekta Samiti (CoTU) also closed the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Firing was done at the SP office and stones were thrown. Many vehicles have been damaged. Many protesters have also been injured in the retaliatory action of the security forces. The Kuki Women Human Rights Organization (KWOHR) alleged that the security forces have targeted Kuki women. They were protesting peacefully against the increasing violence against the community. The organization said- Security forces have been deployed here for 19 months. Even after this, if the Meitei community is attacking us (Kuki), then the security forces should leave the buffer zone. Our people will take necessary steps for safety. Violence between the Kuki-Meitei community has been going on in Manipur since May 3, 2023. More than 600 days have passed since the violence broke out between the Meitei-Kuki community.
