Rohit Sharma’s full interview.. Rohit Sharma said, “Four-five months ago my captaincy and my ideas worked a lot. Suddenly these things started being called bad. Today runs are not being scored, but there is no guarantee that you will not be able to score runs in the future. Life will not change by what people with mic, pen or laptop say. They cannot decide when I should retire, when should I sit out, when should I captain. I am a sensible man, a father of two children. So I know what to do when. My conversation with the coach and selector was very simple. I was not scoring runs, I am not in form and this is an important match so we need players who are in form. This simple aspect was going on in my mind. So I felt that I should tell the coach and selector that I am thinking this way. They supported my decision. You have been playing for so many years, you know what to do and what not to do. It was a difficult decision for me, but it was also a wise decision. I am very I did not want to think about the future. Right now, I only had to think about what the team needs. I had taken the decision to stay out of the Sydney Test after reaching here, because there was less time (a gap of three days) after the Melbourne Test. One day of that was New Year. I did not want to tell the coach and selector about this decision on New Year, but it was going on in my mind that I am working hard, but I am not performing. We have seen this many times in cricket that life changes every minute, every second, every day. That’s why I believe in myself that things will change. I have come from such a long way. Have I come to sit out? I want to play for my team and win matches. This is what has been going on since I first came to the dressing room in 2007, I have to win matches for my team. Sometimes you need to understand what the team needs. If you do not put the team first, then it is of no use.” Rohit is struggling with poor form, could score only 31 runs in BGT-2024
