50 Bangladeshi judges will not come to India for training: Yunus government canceled the program; The agreement was made when Sheikh Hasina was the PM

The interim government of Bangladesh has cancelled the programme of 50 judges coming to India for training. The Economic Times gave this information on Sunday quoting the Bangladeshi Law Ministry. All these judges and judicial officers were to come to India for training from February 10. An agreement was signed with India in 2017 regarding the training of judges when Sheikh Hasina was the Prime Minister. According to the news outlet Daily Star, the Yunus government cancelled this programme after the order of the Bangladeshi Supreme Court. A day earlier, Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha, on behalf of the Yunus government, had issued a report saying that 50 lower court judges would participate in a day’s training at the National Judicial Academy and State Judicial Academy in Madhya Pradesh. The entire cost of the training programme was to be borne by the Government of India. The trainee judges selected under the programme were District and Sessions Judges or equivalent officers, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Joint District Judges, Senior Assistant Judges and Assistant Judges. Sheikh Hasina had signed an agreement in 2017 Sheikh Hasina had visited India in 2017 while she was the Prime Minister. During this period, both the countries had signed 22 agreements. These included the training and capacity development program of the officer of Bangladesh’s judiciary. An agreement was also signed between the National Judicial Academy of India and the Supreme Court of Bangladesh regarding this.
