4 deaths in 7 days due to GB syndrome in Maharashtra: 60-year-old man died; 140 active cases in the state, 20 on ventilator

The number of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and other areas of Maharashtra has increased to 140. Out of these, 20 patients are on ventilators. 3 cases were reported on January 29. After the death of another person on Friday, the death toll has increased to 4. According to the bulletin issued by the Health Department on January 30, a 60-year-old man resident of Dhayari on Sinhagad Road died on Friday due to GB syndrome in the state. Earlier, a 36-year-old man in Pimpale Gurav, a 56-year-old woman in Pune and a 40-year-old man in Solapur have died. According to officials, out of 140 patients, 26 are from Pune Municipal Corporation. There are 78 patients from the villages added to the corporation. There are 15 patients from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. There are 10 patients from Pune Rural and 11 from other districts. The first case has also been reported in Telangana. A 25-year-old woman has been admitted in Siddipet district. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar held a meeting of the District Planning Committee in Pune on Thursday. He instructed the officials to take action against private hospitals that charge high fees from patients. Pawar is also the guardian minister of Pune district. The family members of a 68-year-old patient admitted to a hospital in Pune said that their patient had to be given 13 injections during the treatment. According to doctors, 80% of the patients affected by GBS start walking without any support within 6 months after being discharged from the hospital. But in many cases, the patient takes a year or more. Deputy CM Pawar announced free treatment of GBS Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar announced free treatment of GBS patients. He said that people of Pimpri-Chinchwad will be treated at VCM Hospital, while patients from Pune Municipal Corporation area will be treated at Kamala Nehru Hospital. People from rural areas will get free treatment at Sasoon Hospital in Pune.
