The 8th ‘Shri Dwarka Prasad Agarwal Samman’ was given to lyricist and playback singer Swanand Kirkire by Dainik Bhaskar today at the Darbar Hall of Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF). He was given Rs 2 lakh in cash and a citation as an honor. Talking to Dainik Bhaskar’s National Editor LP Pant at the award ceremony, he said that I did not set out to become a lyricist. I did not set out to become anything, I just kept on becoming. Lyricist Swanand Kirkire has given many timeless songs like ‘O Ri Chiraiya’, ‘Navrai Majhi’, ‘Bawra Mann Dekhen’, ‘All is Well’, ‘Tu Kisi Rail Si’. I try to see the moon in different ways.
Swanand Kirkire said – I am feeling very proud. I have been honored with such a big award in the Jaipur Literature Festival. I have been included in this list, I am very happy. Swanand Kirkire said – I did not set out to become a lyricist, I just kept on becoming. I am a big fan of Javed Akhtar sahab. I like Amitabh Bhattacharya’s work very much. Gulzar sahab saw the moon in many different ways, so I also try to see the moon in different ways. I am from Indore. My parents were also from a musical family, but among lyricists, I met Gulzar sahab first. Gulzar sahab’s songs reached my ears in a different way. His songs left a different impression on my mind. The way words are chosen in Gulzar sahab’s songs, looking at them, it seems that it is very interesting. Seeing this, my interest in music arose. I did not set out to become a lyricist. I did not set out to become anything. Whatever I became, I kept on becoming that. All the songs of Gulzar sahab seem to me as if they are meant for me only. I listen to lyricists very lovingly. My first song is Bawara Mann Dekhen Chala Ek Sapna. Gulzar sahab’s love for songs is very interesting. Dainik Bhaskar’s National Editor Laxmi Prasad Pant said that Dainik Bhaskar organizes ‘Shri Dwarka Prasad Agarwal Samman’ ceremony every year in JLF. Shri Dwarka Prasad Agarwal Samman was started in 2016 from the stage of JLF. This award has been given to stalwarts like Prabhat Ranjan, Yatindra Mishra, Satya Vyas, Deepak Ramola, Manoj Muntashir Shukla, Irshad Kamil and Amish Tripathi so far.
