Kannada actress Ranya Rao was arrested on March 3 at Bengaluru International Airport with 14.2 kg of gold. After the arrest, her picture has surfaced. Jewellery worth Rs 2.1 crore and cash worth Rs 2.7 crore were also recovered from here. Ranya is the stepdaughter of Karnataka Police Housing Corporation DGP Ramachandra Rao. While returning from Dubai to Bengaluru on the night of March 3, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested her at Kempegowda Airport with 14.2 kg of gold. Ranya had brought it hidden in her belt. DGP Ramachandra Rao said- I have nothing to do with Ranya. There is no black spot on my career. After the arrest, Ranya Rao was produced in the court. From where she was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Ranya has worked in Kannada films Manikya and Pattaki. Ranya had hidden the gold by applying tape on her body, thighs and waist. She used modified jackets and wrist belts to hide the gold in her clothes. Sources claim that Ranya gets Rs 1 lakh for bringing every kg of gold. In this way, she earned Rs 12 to 13 lakh in every trip. According to DRI officials, Ranya Rao returned to India from Dubai via Emirates flight. Security agencies were already monitoring her activities as she had visited Dubai 4 times in the last 15 days. Ranya had hidden gold in her clothes. Which is worth Rs 12.56 crores. Apart from this, the police also raided her house. Gold worth Rs 2 crores and cash worth Rs 2 crores were recovered from there. The Delhi team of DRI was already aware of Ranya’s involvement in gold smuggling. Therefore, the officers reached the airport two hours before her flight landed on March 3. Attempt to escape customs through police According to the information, as soon as Ranya landed at the airport, she introduced herself as the daughter of Karnataka DGP. Also, she tried to get out of the airport by contacting the local police, but the DRI team took her to the DRI headquarters in Bengaluru for questioning. During the investigation, Ranya claimed that she had gone to Dubai for business. However, DRI officials suspect that she may be part of a larger smuggling network.
