Israeli authorities rescued 10 Indian workers from the captivity of Palestinians in the West Bank. All have been brought to Israel. According to the Times of Israel report, the Palestinians had called these Indians from Israel to Al-Jayim village in the West Bank on the pretext of labor work. After this, they were held hostage and all their passports were confiscated. Palestinians were trying to enter Israel illegally using these passports. Israeli officials conducted an operation in the West Bank on the night of March 6 and rescued all these hostages. The Embassy of India in Israel has given this information. At present the matter is under investigation. The Indian Embassy is in touch with the Israeli authorities. 16 thousand Indian laborers have reached Israel since 2024 According to the Times of Israel, about 16 thousand Indian laborers have reached Israel since last year. A labor agreement was signed between Israel and India in May 2023. Under this agreement, 42,000 Indian workers were to be given employment in Israel. In December 2023, during the discussion on the war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, both the leaders agreed to speed up the process of sending Indian workers to Israel. According to the Ministry of External Affairs of India, workers in Israel do work like iron binding, floor-tiles setting, plastering and carpentry. They get 5 times more salary than India. The Population and Immigration Authority, an agency of the Israeli government, had released the salary structure for workers going from India. According to this, they will be given a salary of Rs 1.37 lakh every month. Only those workers from India will be sent to Israel who have a diploma in mechanical or construction trade. Why is there a shortage of workers in Israel… After the Israel-Hamas war started on 7 October, Israel rejected the work permit of Palestinians working there. At that time, about 80 thousand Palestinian laborers worked in Israel’s construction industry. After their departure, there was a shortage of labor in Israel. There was a danger of this having a direct impact on Israel’s GDP. According to the report of British media ‘The Guardian’, the Finance Ministry of Israel had feared that due to the stoppage of work in the construction industry, Israel’s GDP could fall by 3%. After this, in November 2023, Israel started giving visas in the construction and agriculture industry. —————————-
