WPL-Mumbai Indians’ fifth win: Defeated Gujarat Giants by 9 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur’s fifty; Matthew-Amelia took 3-3 wickets

Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Giants by 9 runs in Season-3 of Women’s Premier League (WPL). Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played an innings of 54 runs. Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr took 3-3 wickets each. Gujarat Giants won the toss and decided to field first. Mumbai Indians batted first and scored 179 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Mumbai got off to a bad start, first wicket fell at 17 runs

Mumbai did not have a good start. The first wicket fell at 17 runs. Batting first, opener Amelia Kerr was run out after scoring five runs with the help of a four in nine balls. After this, Hayley Matthews along with Natalie Seaver Brunt took charge of the innings and there was a partnership of 29 runs in 25 balls between the two. Healy was out after scoring 27 runs. After this, there was a partnership of 59 runs for the third wicket between Harmanpreet and Brunt which was broken by Gardner. Brunt was dismissed after scoring 38 runs off 31 balls with the help of six fours. After that Harmanpreet Kaur shared a 33-run partnership off 19 balls for the fourth wicket with Amanjot Kaur. Harmanpreet played an innings of 54 runs off 33 balls with the help of nine fours.

Apart from this, Yastika Bhatia remained unbeaten on 13 runs while Sajeevan Sajna remained unbeaten on 11 runs for Mumbai. Gujarat Giants lost 6 wickets within 92 runs

Chasing the target of 180 runs, Gujarat’s batting was not good and it lost six wickets within 92 runs. After this, Fulmali batted aggressively and shared a 50-run partnership off 23 balls with Simran Sheikh for the seventh wicket. Fulmali completed her half-century off 22 balls during this period. However, Amelia Kerr brought Mumbai back into the match by taking Fulmali’s wicket. Apart from Fulmali, no batsman could play a big innings, due to which Gujarat had to face defeat. Apart from Fulmali, Harleen Deol scored 24 runs for Gujarat, while Phoebe Litchfield scored 22, Simran Sheikh scored 18, Kashvi Gautam scored 10, Deandra Dottin scored 10 and Priya Mishra scored one run.

On the other hand, Mathews and Kerr took three wickets each for Mumbai. Shabnam Ismail took two and Sanskriti Gupta got one wicket.
