Painting work started in Sambhal’s Jama Masjid on Sunday. 10 labourers were deployed at 9 am under the supervision of ASI. First the outer walls of the mosque were cleaned, then painting started. A large number of police force was deployed on the spot along with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team. The ASI team also arrived with lights and fringes sent from Delhi. These will be installed after painting. The contractor said that painting of the mosque will take about 10 days. Meanwhile, Mahant Balyogi Dinanath of Nath sect demanded that the mosque be painted in saffron colour. He has also written a letter to the DM for this. Whereas the lawyer of the mosque committee said that green, white and golden colours will be used for painting as before. According to the head of the mosque, Zafar Ali, the colour of the mosque will remain the same as before. The colour will not change. The Muslim side had filed a petition in the High Court for this on 25 February. The matter was heard for the first time in the High Court on 27 February.
