Anurag Kashyap breaks silence on leaving Mumbai: I am busier than Shahrukh, dates are full till 2028, only the city has changed, I have not left filmmaking

Amid speculations of leaving Mumbai and staying away from filmmaking, director Anurag Kashyap has broken his silence on social media. Posting on X (earlier Twitter), the director has clarified that he has only changed the city, not the profession. Anurag wrote- ‘I have changed the city, not left filmmaking. Those who are thinking that I have disappeared out of frustration, they should know that I am here and am so busy that I am working more than Shahrukh Khan (I have to, because I do not earn money like him). I do not have dates till 2028. Kashyap further wrote- ‘My five directorial films are going to come this year. Maybe three now and two early next year. My IMDB is the longest and I am facing so much workload that I have to say no to three offers every day. At the end of the post, he also replied to the trolls, whose language has become a topic of discussion on social media. In fact, recently Anurag had openly expressed his displeasure about Bollywood in some interviews. In a conversation with The Hindu, he had said, ‘This industry has become very toxic now. Everyone is just running after the 500 or 800 crore club. Creativity has disappeared. Here people pull you down instead of lifting you up.’ In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, he had said, ‘Making films here is no longer fun. Everything starts with the strategy of selling. I want to leave Mumbai and go to the South, where I can learn something new. Otherwise, I will die from within.’ Apart from direction, Anurag is also active as an actor. Recently, he has shared an update of his first Hindi-Telugu bilingual film ‘Dacoit’, in which he is acting. His last film as a director was ‘Kennedy’, which received good praise in international film festivals.
