Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has admitted that his country has been supporting and training terrorists for the last 30 years. He said that they are doing this ‘dirty work’ for America and Western countries. Khawaja Asif said this in an interview given to British newspaper The Sky on Friday. British anchor Yalda Hakim had asked him whether Pakistan is responsible for the activities of terrorist groups? On this, he said that global powers used Pakistan for their interests. Khawaja Asif also admitted that supporting or training terrorists was a big mistake. We are suffering the punishment for this. He said- If we had not joined the war against the Soviet Union and the situation that arose after the 9/11 attacks had not happened, then Pakistan’s record would have been spotless. Asif said- Both countries are nuclear powers, the world should be worried. Regarding the Pahalgam case, Khawaja Asif said that the dispute that started between India and Pakistan can take the form of a big war between the two countries. He said that whatever India does, Pakistan will respond to it. If things go wrong, the effect of this confrontation can be dangerous. The Pak Defense Minister said that India, not Pakistan, is responsible for the Pahalgam attack. If India takes any action against us, Pakistan will respond in the same way. Asif said that Pakistan has no other option but to respond. He said that the world should be worried because both the countries have nuclear weapons. However, he hoped that both the countries will resolve the issue through talks. On being asked about the terrorist organization The Resistance Front (TRF) which claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Asif said that he has never even heard its name. When the anchor reminded him that TRF is a part of Lashkar-e-Taiba, he said – Lashkar is now old. It does not exist anymore.
