The body of Christian Catholic religious leader Pope Francis has been buried in Rome’s Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica. A short prayer was held here before the body was buried. The process of burying the Pope was not telecast live. This place is about 4 km away from St. Peter’s Square. Pope Francis had said in his last wish that he should be buried in a simple grave in the ground, on which only Franciscus (the Latin form of his name Francis) is written. The funeral rituals of the Pope at St. Peter’s Square started at 1:30 pm and lasted for about three hours. His body was taken out of St. Peter’s Basilica and placed in St. Peter’s Square, where a prayer meeting was organized. Two and a half lakh people gathered at the funeral of the Pope. Representatives from 170 countries arrived to have the last darshan of the Pope. These include Indian President Draupadi Murmu, US President Donald Trump, Argentine President Javier Milley, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron. The Pope died on 21 April at the age of 88 due to stroke and heart failure. For the last three days, his body was kept in a coffin in St. Peter’s Basilica for the last darshan.
