Many complaints have been filed against Kannada cinema’s popular actress Ranya Rao for smuggling gold. On March 3, 2025, the actress was caught with gold worth Rs 12.56 crore at Kempegowda Airport in Bangalore. Investigation revealed that the actress has been smuggling gold for a long time, which has links with London, Europe and Dubai. Now in this case, on April 26, a complaint has been filed against Kannada actress Ranya Rao under COFEPOSA (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities). Due to this, Ranya will not be able to get bail for at least one year. According to the investigating authority, Ranya Rao was not assisting in the investigation. She had filed a bail petition several times. This section has been imposed so that she can be prevented from getting into this illegal work again. What is the whole matter? Kannada actress and senior police officer K. Ramachandra Rao’s stepdaughter Ranya Rao landed at Kempegowda Airport in Bangalore on March 3. At around 6 o’clock, Ranya headed towards the exit gate. She went towards the green channel to exit. The green channel is for those passengers who do not have any luggage for checking. Ranya used to exit the airport in the same way earlier as well. That day, officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) stopped her. They asked – Do you have gold or something that you need to tell? Ranya replied – No. In this short conversation, nervousness started appearing on Ranya’s face. The officers got suspicious. They called two female officers and asked Ranya to check. When she was searched, gold was found in different parts of her body. A total of 14.2 kg of gold was recovered from her, which was worth Rs 12.56 crore. Ranya was immediately taken into custody. Since then, Ranya is in police custody. According to police sources, Ranya has told that she had visited Europe, America and Middle East countries many times. She told the reason for this was modeling photo shoots and real estate related work. Ranya is currently lodged in Bangalore Central Jail along with two co-accused Tarun Raju and Sahil Sakaria.
