The central government has issued a notice for Pakistani citizens on Sunday evening. It states that if a Pakistani does not leave India within the stipulated deadline, he will be arrested and a case will be filed against him. Such citizens may face 3 years in jail or a fine of ?3 lakh or both. According to the ‘Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025’, which came into force from April 4, 2025, strict action will be taken for violating the terms of the visa or staying in India beyond the stipulated period. The deadline to leave India for SAARC visa holders was April 26. For those holding medical visas, this deadline is April 29. After the deadline for short-term visa holders ended, a total of 537 Pakistani citizens have returned to the Attari border in the last three days. Protocol officer Arun Pal at the Attari border said that 850 Indian citizens have returned in the last three days. On Sunday alone, 237 Pakistanis returned to their country, while 116 Indian citizens returned. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had informed on 23 April that 14 categories of visas of Pakistani citizens are being cancelled. Visa holders of 13 categories were to leave India by 25 April. However, it was extended by 2 days. On Sunday (27 April), these 12 types of visa holders had to leave India at any cost. Which Pakistani citizens have time till 29 April to leave India?
The Indian government issues medical visas to Pakistani citizens for treatment. A maximum of 2 attendants or family members are allowed to enter with a patient. They have also been given time till 29 April to leave the country. On humanitarian grounds, these citizens have been given 2 days more than other visa holders, so that they can complete their treatment and go back safely. Medical visa holders have been asked to keep their treatment documents ready, so that they do not face any problem during investigation. Apart from this, the diplomats of Defence, Navy and Air Force of Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi were declared as ‘unwanted persons’. They will have to leave India by 30th April.
