Zomato shuts down 15-minute delivery service: Launched 4 months ago; now the company is focusing on Blinkit’s Bistro

Food delivery platform Zomato (Eternal) has discontinued the quick delivery service in 15 minutes. This feature was launched only four months ago. It was introduced with heavy advertisement in metro cities like Bengaluru, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai. Zomato Quick used to give ready-to-eat food options to users within 15 minutes within a radius of 2 km. Company CEO Deepinder Goyal had said in a recent interview that the quick delivery service was facing challenges due to lack of restaurant partners and lack of product-market fit (PMF). Earlier in 2022, a 10-minute delivery service called Zomato Instant was also discontinued. It was replaced by Zomato Everyday. But later the Everyday service was also removed from the app. The attempt failed for the second time, now the focus is on Blinkit’s Bistro Zomato had tried to enter the quick food delivery market for the second time. As of March, the quick service accounted for 8% of the total orders. After shutting it down, Zomato is now focusing on its subsidiary company Blinkit Bistro app. In December 2024, Zomato’s subsidiary Blinkit launched ‘Bistro’ In December 2024, the company’s quick-commerce subsidiary Blinkit launched ‘Bistro’. Through this platform, the company promises to deliver snacks, meals and beverages in 10 minutes. Earlier, Zomato’s rival Zepto unveiled Zepto Cafe. This app of Zomato has come in the instant food delivery segment after Swiggy’s Swiggy Bolt and Zepto’s Zepto Cafe. Currently, all these apps do not sell proper meals, but sell readymade food items and snacks like samosas, sandwiches, coffee, pastries and other items. Profit decreased by 78% on an annual basis Zomato has earned a total of Rs 6,201 crore in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024-25 (Q4FY25). This is 63% more than last year. In the same quarter last year, the company had earned Rs 3,797 crore. If the expenses like salary of employees, tax, cost of raw materials are removed from the total earnings, then the company is left with Rs 39 crore as net profit (consolidated net profit). It has decreased by 77.71% on an annual basis (January-March of 2024). At the same time, it has decreased by 33.90% as compared to the previous quarter i.e. October-December.
