Protests have started in Odisha over the name of the Jagannath temple built in Digha, West Bengal. Pandits, servants, scholars, artists and researchers of Puri Jagannath temple are objecting to naming the temple ‘Jagannath Dham’. Actually, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Jagannath temple built in Digha in East Medinipur district on 30 April. After worship, she named the temple ‘Jagannath Dham’. The people of Odisha supported the construction of the temple, but objected to the name. They say that Jagannath Dham is only in Puri, giving this name to other temples is against Hindu beliefs and traditions. Sand artist Padma Shri Sudarshan Patnaik has written a letter to Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi and urged him to talk to the West Bengal government.
