Pakistan was questioned in the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Monday night on Pahalgam attack and India-Pakistan tension. According to the report of news agency ANI, Pakistan was asked whether Lashkar-e-Taiba was involved in the Pahalgam attack. In the meeting, UNSC members condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack and also stressed the need for accountability. During this, UNSC members said that tourists in Pahalgam were targeted on the basis of their religion. Members also expressed concern over Pakistan conducting 2 missile tests in 3 days. UNSC temporary member Pakistan had appealed for a meeting on India-Pakistan tension. It also said that this meeting should be held in a closed room. UNSC has not yet issued any statement on the meeting. According to ANI sources, the members did not accept the allegations made by Pakistan on India. However, before the meeting, UN Chief Antonio Guterres appealed to both the countries not to make any mistake, military operation is not the solution. 4 important things related to the UNSC meeting 1. Pakistan was advised to resolve issues with India bilaterally. 3. The Pahalgam terrorist attack was condemned and accountability was demanded. 4. Pakistan criticized India for suspending the Indus Water Treaty. It was said that water should not be used as a weapon. Meeting in the consultation room on Pakistan’s appeal This meeting was held in the ‘Consultation Room’ and not in the main room of the Security Council. Confidential talks are held in this room. Representatives of 15 countries were present in the meeting. The talks lasted for about one and a half hours. The Security Council has not issued any official statement after the meeting. Pakistan said – tension increased due to India’s provocative statement Pakistan denies involvement in Pahalgam Iftikhar denied India’s allegation in which Pakistan was held responsible for the Pahalgam terrorist attack. He said that Pakistan and all members of the Security Council have condemned this attack. Iftikhar also seriously raised India’s decision to unilaterally suspend the Indus Water Treaty in the meeting. He said that this treaty was signed under the mediation of the World Bank and remained intact during three wars. The Pakistani envoy said, ‘Water is life, it should not be used as a weapon.’ India’s former permanent representative Syed Akbaruddin told the news agency that no ‘concrete results’ should be expected from this meeting. He said that Pakistan is only trying to ‘create perceptions’ by using this platform, to which India will give a befitting reply. UN Chief said – Military solution will not solve the problem. A few hours before this closed-door meeting, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had expressed concern about the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. He has appealed to both the countries to exercise maximum restraint. Guterres said in a statement- “The tension between India and Pakistan is at its peak. I respect the governments and citizens of both the countries and am grateful for the contribution of both in the UN peace mission. In such a situation, I am saddened to see that their mutual relations have reached this dangerous point.” …………………………………..
