Reliance Industries has withdrawn the trademark application for “Operation Sindoor” made on May 7. This application was made under Class 41. That is, after getting the trademark, only Reliance could use this word for entertainment and cultural activities. Reliance said- “We have no intention to trademark Operation Sindoor, it is a word that has now become a part of the national consciousness as a symbol of Indian valor. Jio Studios, a unit of Reliance Industries, has withdrawn its trademark application which was inadvertently filed by a junior person without permission. The strike on Pakistan has been named ‘Operation Sindoor’. This application has been made on the same day when India carried out air strikes on 9 terrorist bases in 7 cities of Pakistan at around 1 am. More than 100 terrorists were killed in this. The three armies together have named this strike on Pakistan as ‘Operation Sindoor’. This name is dedicated to those women whose husbands were killed by terrorists on 22 April in Pahalgam after asking about their religion. This retaliatory action by India has been taken 15 days after the Pahalgam attack. 26 people were killed by terrorists in the Pahalgam attack. Apart from Reliance, three others also applied for “Operation Sindoor” trademark: Trademark will be given after reviewing the applications. The Indian Trademark Registry will now review the applications, this process may take months. Whoever gets the approval will get exclusive rights to use “Operation Sindoor” in the specified category. Legal experts say that if there are multiple applications for the same wordmark, the registry will give priority to the first application filed or the most substantiated claim. After the trademark application, there were speculations that Reliance would use it for films, documentaries or cultural events related to military operations. Class 41 of trademark registration includes services like film production, event organization and educational activities. However, now Reliance has withdrawn the application. Reliance operates JioHotstar, Jio Studios. The entertainment business of Reliance Industries is a key vertical in its diversified portfolio. Reliance’s portfolio also includes energy, petrochemicals, retail and telecommunications.
