Asian Beach Handball Championship: Indian men’s team came out wearing black bands against Pakistan; Indian team lost 0-2

In the 10th Asian Beach Handball Championship being held in Muscat, the Indian men’s team played the match against the Pakistan team wearing black bands.
However, after the intervention of the Asian Handball Federation, the Indian team removed the bands. In fact, in view of the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, the Indian beach handball team on Friday decided to boycott Pakistan in the match against Pakistan and played wearing black bands. After which the Asian Handball Federation intervened and forbade them from doing so and warned of removal from the tournament. After which the players played by removing the black bands. The Indian team had to face a 0-2 defeat in this match. The Indian Handball Association had sought guidelines from the Sports Ministry and the Olympic Association.
The Indian men’s and women’s teams had reached Muscat on May 5 for the tournament. Seeing the increased tension with Pakistan, the Indian Handball Association had sent an email to the Sports Ministry and the Indian Olympic Association seeking guidelines regarding the match against Pakistan. After not getting any reply, the team management took the decision on its own and decided to wear black bands. Both the teams can clash once again in the semi-finals or finals.
