Supreme Court stops Trump’s expulsion of immigrants: US President angry, said- Judge will not allow criminals to be expelled from the country

The US Supreme Court on Friday stayed Trump’s decision to expel Venezuelan immigrants from the country. Many immigrants are currently locked up in a detention center in Texas. The Trump administration wanted to send them out of the country as soon as possible through the ‘Alien Enemies Act’ of 1798. While staying the Trump administration’s decision, the court said that the government will have to give people a full opportunity to undergo legal proceedings before expelling them from the country. The court also said that the method adopted by the Trump administration, such as sending immigrants out of the country without a hearing in 24 hours, is not right at all. The Alien Enemies Act is a law made during wartime in which no legal action is required to expel enemies from the country. However, it was challenged in court through some provisions of the US Constitution. The lower court had refused to hear the case, now it will give the verdict. This decision means that immigrants have the right to know and challenge in court why they are being expelled. However, this decision is still temporary and the entire legal battle on it is yet to come. The Supreme Court has sent the case back to a lower court (Fifth Circuit Court) so that it can be heard more properly there. This is the same court which refused to intervene in the matter in April. US President Donald Trump has expressed displeasure over the court’s decision. He wrote on his social media account – The Supreme Court will not allow us to expel criminals from the country. Trump administration sent 137 people to El Salvador Trump has been engaged in expelling people living illegally in the country since coming to power for the second time. Using the Alien Enemies Act, the Trump administration sent about 137 immigrants from Venezuela to El Salvador in March 2025. Trump alleged that they were criminals and were associated with the infamous Girod ‘Train de Aragua’. According to reports, there were no criminal charges against many of these immigrants and they were taken into custody without following proper legal process. In El Salvador, these immigrants were sent to CECOT prison, considered the world’s most dangerous. This prison is infamous for human rights violations. A prison was built in El Salvador in January 2023. Its name is ‘Terrorist Detention Center’ which is also known as CECOT. It is one of the largest prisons in the world. More than 40 thousand prisoners can be kept in it. Know about this prison in detail The court had earlier also stayed Trump’s decision The US Supreme Court had temporarily stayed the use of the Trump administration’s Alien Enemies Act in late March. The court said that not a single immigrant should be sent out through this act until the matter is fully heard. Now after a full hearing on May 16, the Supreme Court has further extended this temporary stay, and left the matter to the lower court. This means that the Trump administration still cannot send anyone out. Now the lower court will decide 2 things… The lawyer said – this decision is a rebuke for the Trump government The court has not clarified what will happen to the 137 people sent to El Salvador now? At the same time, the families of the deported people say that they have not been able to get any information about their people. They are worried about their families. ACLU’s lawyer Lee Gelrant, who is fighting the case on behalf of these people, said that the court’s decision is like a rebuke to the Trump government. …………………………………..
