In 2000, he attended a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist training camp in Pakistan, the same organization that carried out the 2008 Mumbai attacks. After the 9/11 attacks of 2001, Royer became a prominent member of the ‘Virginia Jihad Network’. This network organized paintball training for jihad and arranged weapons training at Lashkar-e-Taiba camps to support the Taliban. In 2004, Royer pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the use of explosives. For which he was sentenced to 20 years, but he was released in 2017 after 13 years.
