Lufthansa flight kept flying for 10 minutes without a pilot: 205 people were present, revealed after 15 months

A flight going to Spain flew without a pilot for about 10 minutes with 205 people on board. Actually, the pilot of the plane had gone to the toilet, when suddenly the co-pilot’s health deteriorated, and he fainted. This has been revealed 15 months later in a new report by Spain’s accident investigation agency CIAIAC. According to the report, this incident happened in Lufthansa’s Airbus A321 on February 17, 2024 last year. The flight was going from Frankfurt to Seville, Spain. At that time there were 199 passengers and 6 crew members on the plane. Lufthansa conducted an internal investigation, but did not reveal the results. The pilot returned from the bathroom and tried to open the cockpit door, but he could not open the door as it was locked from inside. The crew member also called on the intercom in an attempt to talk to the co-pilot. On not getting a response, the captain used the emergency code and went inside the cockpit, and controlled the plane. The co-pilot was given first aid by the crew and a passenger doctor. Due to which the co-pilot regained consciousness. Investigation revealed that the co-pilot already had a neurological disease, which he was not aware of and it was not detected in his medical test as well. After this, the co-pilot’s medical certificate was canceled. Lufthansa told the German news agency that they were aware of the incident, and their flight safety team had also investigated it, but its results were not made public.
