Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that senior Hamas leader Mohammad Sinwar was killed in an Israeli army attack on May 14. Mohammad Sinwar’s elder brother Yahya Sinwar was the head of Hamas and the mastermind of the attacks on Israel in October 2023. He was killed in an Israeli attack last year. Speaking in the Israeli Parliament, Netanyahu said that Mohammad Sinwar was among the list of those who attacked Israel on 7 October 2023. He was hiding in a tunnel under the hospital in Gaza Earlier on May 14, media reports also said that Mohammad Sinwar was dead. Then Israeli fighter jets carried out an airstrike in a tunnel under the European Hospital in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Mohammad Sinwar was suspected to be in this tunnel. In 1991, Israel imprisoned Mohammad Sinwar for nine months due to suspected terrorist activities. A few years later, he was arrested by the Palestinian government, where he remained in jail for 3 years. However, he escaped in the year 2000. According to media reports, Israel had tried to kill Mohammad Sinwar several times, but he escaped every time. Israel had also placed a reward of $3,00,000 for providing information about him.
