Amid the rise in Covid-19 cases in several states of India, four new variants have been found in the country. ICMR Director Dr. Rajiv Bahl said that the variants sequenced from South and West India are of the LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1 series. Samples are being taken from other places and sequenced so that the new variant can be investigated. The cases are not very serious and people should not worry, just be cautious. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also not considered them worrisome. However, it has been categorized as a variant kept under surveillance. This variant is seen in the increasing cases of Covid in other Asian countries including China. Spike protein mutations like A435S, V445H, and T478I of NB.1.8.1 spread faster than other variants. They are also not affected by the immunity developed against Covid. The JN.1 variant of Covid is the most common in India. This variant is found in more than half of the samples tested. After this, cases of BA.2 (26 percent) and Omicron sublineage (20 percent) variants are also found. The JN.1 variant weakens immunity

JN.1 is a strain of Omicron’s BA2.86. It was first seen in August 2023. In December 2023, WHO declared it a ‘variant of interest’. It has about 30 mutations, which weaken immunity. According to Johns Hopkins University in the US, JN.1 spreads more easily than other variants, but it is not very serious. It remains the most common variant in many parts of the world. The symptoms of the JN.1 variant can last from a few days to weeks. If your symptoms persist for a long time, you may have long-term covid. This is a condition in which some symptoms of COVID-19 persist even after recovery. ————————————————— Read these Corona related news too… Corona deaths increased by 20 lakh in the year 2021, revealed in government report; Number of deaths due to covid-heart disease increased at double the rate this year After a year, active cases of corona in India have crossed the 1 thousand mark again.
