JN.1 is a strain of Omicron’s BA2.86. It was first seen in August 2023. In December 2023, WHO declared it a ‘variant of interest’. It has about 30 mutations, which weaken immunity. According to Johns Hopkins University in the US, JN.1 spreads more easily than other variants, but it is not very serious. It remains the most common variant in many parts of the world. The symptoms of the JN.1 variant can last from a few days to weeks. If your symptoms persist for a long time, you may have long-term covid.
