Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who went on a US tour as part of the Indian government delegation, reacted to the anti-party rhetoric on Thursday. He said- Those who consider working in the national interest as an anti-party activity should question themselves. Tharoor gave this answer to the question of speculations of leaving the Congress. He said- When you are serving the country, one should not care much about such things. Our political differences end as soon as we go outside the Indian border. As soon as we cross the border, we are Indians first. Tharoor is currently on a US tour, where he is leading the multi-party delegation formed for Operation Sindoor. On speaking in support of the government, Congress leader Udit Raj called Tharoor the super spokesperson of the BJP. Tharoor said on Trump- India does not need anyone’s advice
On US President Donald Trump’s statement of mediation between India and Pakistan, Tharoor said- I have not come here to fuel any controversy. I respect the US President. We do not know what he said to Pakistan, but we did not need anyone’s advice. We had said on the first day that if Pakistan attacks, we will respond with more vigor. And if it stops, we will also stop. India gave a strong response during Operation Sindoor
Tharoor said that after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, India carried out air strikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK on May 7. Pakistan tried to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10, to which India responded strongly. The action was stopped after talks between the DGMOs of both countries on May 10. The Center sent Tharoor to brief the world on Operation Sindoor
The Modi government at the Center has sent 7 delegations to different countries of the world to present India’s stand on Operation Sindoor and against terrorism. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is leading a delegation. This delegation will visit the US, Guyana, Panama, Brazil and Colombia. Apart from Tharoor, the delegation includes LJP MP Shambhavi Chaudhary, JMM MP Sarfaraz Ahmed, TDP’s GM Harish Balayogi, BJP’s Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejasvi Surya and Bhubaneswar’s Lata, Shiv Sena’s Mallikarjun Deora, former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora. Congress had objected to Tharoor’s name in the delegation. On May 17, the central government released the names of MPs leading 7 delegations going around the world. The only MP from Congress in this was Shashi Tharoor’s name. Then the Congress had said that it had not given Tharoor’s name to the Center. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, ‘On Friday (May 16) morning, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju spoke to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. He had asked for the names of 4 MPs for the delegation to be sent abroad. Congress had given the names of Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain and Raja Brar. Tharoor had said – I feel honored
On the other hand, Shashi Tharoor thanked the Center for getting the responsibility of leading the delegation. He wrote on X, ‘I feel honored by the invitation of the Government of India to lead an all-party delegation to the capitals of five major countries to present our country’s view on recent events. When it comes to national interest and my services are needed, I will not stay behind.’ Tharoor praised the Center for Operation Sindoor
MP Shashi Tharoor praised the central government on May 8 for Operation Sindoor. He said that Operation Sindoor is a strong message for Pakistan and the world. India took precise action to avenge the death of 26 innocent civilians. Since this statement of Tharoor, many Congress leaders are angry with him. Congress had said- Tharoor crossed the Laxman Rekha
Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting was held on 14 May in Delhi. In this, some leaders, pointing towards Tharoor, said that this is not the time to express personal views, but the time to clarify the official stand of the party. Congress is a democratic party, but people keep expressing their opinions. This time Tharoor has crossed the Laxman Rekha. Previous governments also sent delegations abroad to present their side- 1994: Opposition leader Vajpayee presented India’s side in UNHRC
This is not the first time that the central government will take the help of opposition parties to present its side on any issue. Earlier in 1994, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao had sent an Indian delegation led by opposition leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee to the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) in Geneva to present India’s side on the Kashmir issue. Leaders like former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah and Salman Khurshid were also included in that delegation. Then Pakistan was preparing to present a proposal before the UNHRC regarding the alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the Indian delegation responded to Pakistan’s allegations and as a result Pakistan had to withdraw its proposal. At that time, India’s ambassador to the UN, Hamid Ansari, also played an important role in making Prime Minister Rao’s strategy successful. 2008: After the Mumbai attacks, the Manmohan government sent a delegation abroad
After the Mumbai attacks in 2008, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also decided to send a delegation of various political parties abroad with documents related to Pakistani links in the terrorist attacks. India had decided not to launch a military attack on Pakistan. However, due to the diplomatic attack of the Manmohan government, there was a lot of international pressure on Pakistan to take action against Lashkar-e-Taiba and other terrorist groups. The United Nations Security Council and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) also put Pakistan in the grey list for the first time. What is Operation Sindoor?
On April 22, a terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorists killed 26 tourists. On May 7, India carried out airstrikes on 9 terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. The army killed 100 terrorists. Both countries agreed on ceasefire from 5 pm on May 10. ……………..
