World champion D Gukesh registered his fourth win in the Norway Chess Tournament 2025. He defeated China’s Wei Yi in the 9th round played on Thursday. Now Gukesh has 14.5 points and is just half a point behind Magnus Carlsen, who is at the top of the table. Gukesh has come to second place. In the 10th and final round of the tournament, Gukesh will face American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana. Caruana is at number four in the points table. At the same time, another Grandmaster of India Arjun Erigaisi is at the 5th position with 11.5 points. Humpy slips to second place
All three classical games in the women’s category were decisive and this led to many big changes in the points table. Anna Muzychuk defeated Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun to take a two-point lead. Indian star D Gukesh defeated world number-1 Magnus Carlsen in the sixth round. Gukesh had achieved his first victory against Carlsen in classical chess. After the defeat, Carlsen angrily punched the chess board, due to which the pieces got scattered. However, later he apologized to Gukesh and also patted his back. Gukesh won the title in the World Chess Championship played in Singapore in December by defeating China’s Ding Liren 7.5-6.5 in the final. Gukesh is the first player in the world to win the World Chess Championship at the age of 18. Earlier in 1985, Russia’s Garry Kasparov won this title at the age of 22. Gukesh won this title by defeating the Chinese player in the 14th game. The final of the championship started on 25th November, 13 games were played between the two till 11th December. Chess Olympiad was organized in Budapest from 10th to 23rd September last year. India became champion in both the Open and Women’s categories. In the Open category, Gukesh had won the final game and led India to victory.
