Comedian and actress Jamie Lever recently told how she was a victim of racism and body shaming since childhood. In an interview to Hotterfly, Jamie said, “I was very fat in childhood. I had a big body. So I always wore long kurta or t-shirt so that I could cover my body.” Jamie Lever said, “Even my family members used to tell me to wear long kurta, hide my hips. After listening to all this, I started hating my body. I started feeling ashamed. I did not like myself. I am a pear shaped girl, what is my fault in this?” Jamie Lever had to listen to comments like ‘she is black’, ‘she looks like a witch’. Jamie Lever also told that she was trolled a lot about her skin color. She says, “I got so many comments that she is black, she looks like a witch, she laughs like a witch laughs. She is ugly. Jamie said that colourism is a big issue in India. She said, “Since childhood I was told to rub turmeric, apply ubtan, become fair.” Jamie further said, “Nobody is perfect. The body of a human being is fine the way it is. I am now writing something on this.” Let us tell you that Jamie is the daughter of comedian Johnny Lever. She started her career as a marketing executive from London in the year 2012. After this she stepped into stand-up comedy. So far she has appeared in films like ‘Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon’, ‘Housefull 4’, ‘Bhoot Police’. In 2024, she has also debuted in Telugu cinema.
