Jammu and Kashmir Police has installed Face Recognition System (FRS) on the Pahalgam route of Amarnath Yatra. This system will alert the security forces as soon as the blacklisted people and active terrorists in the valley are caught in the camera, so that any kind of terrorist attack on the pilgrims can be prevented. For this, pictures of terrorists and suspected overground workers have been uploaded in this system. This system is also being installed on the Baltal route. FRS identifies the person by analyzing the faces from digital pictures or videos and matching them with the database. This decision has come after the Pahalgam terrorist attack on 22 April. 26 tourists were killed in the terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley. The Yatra, which will run from 3 July to 9 August, is being held for 38 days for the first time. It will be completed on 9 August on the day of Rakshabandhan with Chhari Mubarak. This year the duration of the Yatra has been reduced to 38 days as compared to 52 days last year. Special arrangements are being made this time for the 2025 Amarnath Yatra. 5 lakh pilgrims had reached in 2024. The Yatra was of 52 days in 2024. The Yatra lasted for 62 days in 2023, 43 days in 2022 and 46 days in 2019. The Yatra was postponed in 2020-21 due to the Corona pandemic. In the 52-day Amarnath Yatra in 2024, more than 5 lakh devotees had darshan of Baba Barfani in the holy cave. 4.5 lakh pilgrims had participated in 2023. In the year 2012, a record 6.35 pilgrims had darshan. In 2022, the figure decreased due to Covid and 3 lakh pilgrims had reached for darshan. Terrorist attacks have happened on Amarnath Yatra earlier as well. There have been many terrorist attacks on Amarnath pilgrims earlier as well. In August 2000, 32 people including two dozen Amarnath pilgrims were killed in a terrorist attack on the Nunwan base camp. Thirteen people were killed in an attack in July 2001, when terrorists attacked the Sheshnag base camp of the yatra. In 2002, 11 Amarnath pilgrims were killed at the Chandanwari base camp. In July 2017, eight people were killed in an attack on a bus full of Amarnath pilgrims in Kulgam district. How to reach: Two routes for the yatra 1. Pahalgam route: It takes 3 days to reach the cave from this route, but this route is easy. There is no steep climb in the yatra. The first stop from Pahalgam is Chandanwari. It is 16 km from the base camp. The climb starts from here. After climbing three km, the yatra reaches Pissu Top. From here, walking on foot, the yatra reaches Sheshnag by evening. This journey is about 9 km. The next day the pilgrims go to Panchtarni from Sheshnag. It is about 14 km from Sheshnag. The cave is only 6 km from Panchtarni. 2. Baltal Route: If you are short on time, you can go to visit Baba Amarnath via Baltal route. It is just a 14 km long climb, but it is a very steep climb, so elderly people face difficulty on this route. There are narrow paths and dangerous turns on this route. Things to keep in mind: Keep medical certificate, 4 passport size photos, Aadhar card, RFID card, travel application form with you during the journey. For physical fitness, practice walking 4 to 5 km every day. Do breathing yoga like pranayam and exercise. Keep woolen clothes, raincoat, trekking stick, water bottle and a bag of essential medicines with you during the journey.
