People present at the stampede during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha said – there was only one way for entry and exit. The exit gate was closed. VIP entry was being done from there. There was no separate way for common devotees. Police could not handle the crowd. Meanwhile, two trucks loaded with worship material entered in front of the chariot, due to which many devotees collided with the trucks and fell down. This caused a stampede. An eyewitness said that there was no policeman on the spot at the time of the accident. The ambulance was one kilometer away. People carried the injured on their hands. The husband of a deceased said – my wife kept asking for water. There was no one to listen. There was no help from the police. My wife died due to the negligence of the administration. Eyewitnesses said that the situation near the temple was bad since night. The polythene on which the devotees were sitting became slippery in the rain, due to which people kept falling. There was a stampede near Gundicha temple during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri on Sunday morning at 4:20. Three devotees died in this. More than 50 were injured. The accident took place in front of Gundicha temple, about 3 km away from Jagannath temple.
