The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is preparing two new versions of the intercontinental ballistic missile Agni-5. It will destroy enemy nuclear systems, radar systems, control centres and weapon storage by penetrating heavy bunkers and underground to a depth of 80-100 metres. The old version of Agni-5 has the capability to carry nuclear weapons up to a distance of 5,000 kilometres. Its two new versions will have a range of 2500 km but will have the capability to carry 7500 kg of bunker buster warheads (explosives), which is more than the American GBU-57 bunker buster bomb. Work is underway on two new versions of Agni-5. One of them will provide the facility of airburst warhead for targets above the ground. The second will be a missile that penetrates the ground and can penetrate concrete as well. This achievement of DRDO will bring India at par with America’s 30 thousand pound (13600 kg) GBU-57 series ‘bunker buster’ bomb. America had dropped this bomb on Iran’s Fordo nuclear site on 21 June. Which was 200 feet below. The warhead of GBU-57 weighs 2600 kg. Why is it important for India? After Operation Sindoor, India is rapidly increasing the missiles that can destroy the enemy’s bunkers. In view of India-Pakistan tension, Iran-Israel war, India is strengthening its defense system. Pakistan and China have built strong underground bases on their borders. This missile will play a big role in mountainous areas, high altitude areas. It will destroy the enemy’s command center and weapon depots near the border. America’s GBU-57 bunker bomb – the world’s most powerful weapon America had attacked Iran’s Fordo nuclear site on 21 June. In this attack, America used 30,000 pound GBU-57 series ‘bunker buster’ bombs for the first time. These bombs are specially designed to destroy deep bunkers and underground sites. US Army Chairman Lieutenant General Dan Kane had said that it took 15 years to make these bombs. In 2009, when America came to know about Iran’s Fordo site, they did not have any proper weapon to destroy it. After this, America developed these powerful bombs. The government has decided that by 2029 (in the next 4 years), 52 special defense satellites will be sent into space, all these satellites will become India’s eyes in space and will constantly keep an eye on the Pakistan-China border. The satellites will be Artificial Intelligence (AI) based. 36 thousand km. They will be able to communicate with each other at altitude. This will make it easier to send signals, messages and pictures to the earth. This entire campaign is being run under the Defense Space Agency and for this the government has made a ‘Space-Based Surveillance Phase-3’ (SBS-3) plan. There is a budget of ? 26,968 crores for this. It was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security in October 2024. Read full news… …………………….
