The internal tussle over the post of Chief Minister has intensified in Karnataka Congress. Meanwhile, Congress leader and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has arrived on a visit to Bengaluru and is continuously holding meetings with party MLAs. MLA Iqbal Hussain, close to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, claimed that about 100 MLAs are in favor of changing the Chief Minister. If there is no change now, then Congress will not be able to win the 2028 elections. Hussain said in a conversation with NDTV, we will openly raise this issue with Surjewala. Shivakumar has worked day and night for the party and he should now get a chance to become CM. Actually, DK Shivakumar played an important role in the big victory of Congress in the 2023 assembly elections. Then he was a strong contender for the post of Chief Minister, but at the behest of the party high command, he accepted the responsibility of Deputy CM and State President. At that time the matter of rotational CM formula had also come to the fore, but it was never publicly approved. Now once again this issue has come to the surface openly. Surjewala said – Talk of leadership change in the state is just a fantasy Randeep Surjewala reached Bengaluru on Monday. His visit is being linked to the growing rift between the CM and Deputy CM. However, he rejected these speculations and described his visit as an “organizational review”. He told the media that the talk of leadership change was a fantasy. Siddaramaiah also said while talking to the media in Mysore that the government will run like a ‘Bande’ i.e. a rock for five years. Kharge said – The decision to change the CM in Karnataka will be taken by the high command Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Monday, ‘This decision (changing the CM) is completely in the hands of the high command. No one can say what is going on in the mind of the high command. It is their right to take a decision, but no one should unnecessarily create any trouble on this issue. In fact, on Sunday, Karnataka Congress MLA H. A. Iqbal Hussain had said that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar may get a chance to become the Chief Minister of the state in the coming two-three months. Since then, speculations about changing the CM in Karnataka had started. BJP asked – If you are not the high command then who
Karnataka opposition leader R Ashok on Monday asked, ‘Dear Kharge ji, if you are not the high command, then who is it, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi or is it an invisible committee of a nickname. In Congress, the president is just for show, while decisions are taken behind closed doors at 10 Janpath. In March, Congress MLA had claimed – Shivakumar will become CM in December Congress MLA Basavaraju V Sivaganga had claimed on March 2 that Deputy CM DK Shivakumar will become the Chief Minister in the coming December. He will remain CM for at least the next 7.5 years. Supporting Sivaganga’s point, former Karnataka Chief Minister Veerappa Moily said – DK Shivakumar should become the Chief Minister of the state.
