The Delhi High Court has stayed the release of the film ‘Udaipur Files’, which is based on the famous Udaipur Kanhaiyalal murder case. The bench of Justice D.K. Upadhyay and Justice Anish Dayal, while hearing 3 petitions including that of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani, put an interim stay on the release of the film. It was said in the petition that the Muslims of the country are being defamed through this film. The film can spoil communal harmony. Many scenes of the film are going to provoke emotions, so the release of the film should be stopped. In its order, the court told the petitioner to register his objection to the film before the central government within 2 days. At the same time, the central government should take a decision on the petitioner’s application within a week using its revision powers under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act. The court said that until the central government takes a decision on the petitioner’s application, the ban on the release of the film will continue. The case is pending for three years, when will justice be served? After the ban on the release of the film, Kanhaiyalal’s son Yash Teli expressed disappointment. Yash Teli said- On one hand, the hearing and decision on the ban on the movie are done so quickly, on the other hand, my father’s killers have not been punished yet. The case is pending for 3 years, when will justice be served? Actually, the film ‘Udaipur Files’ was going to be released on Friday (11 July) on about 3500 screens across the country, which also included three major cinemas of Udaipur. Now it has been banned. 1 day ago, the Supreme Court had refused to ban it. A petition was also filed in the Supreme Court by Mohammad Javed, the accused in the Kanhaiyalal murder case, to ban the film. On July 9 itself, the Supreme Court, while hearing it, refused to ban the film. Accused Javed had said in the petition that the trial is still going on in this case. The Supreme Court had said on this that if you have any objection, you can go to the High Court. Why is there controversy over Udaipur Files? The film ‘Udaipur Files’ is based on the Kanhaiyalal murder case of 2022. The trailer of the film includes Nupur Sharma’s controversial statement and the Gyanvapi controversy. It is being cited that communal harmony will deteriorate due to these scenes. Kanhaiyalal was murdered by slitting his throat in the shop. On 28 June 2022, Kanhaiyalal was brutally murdered by Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Gaus Mohammad by slitting his throat. In the case of Kanhaiyalal’s murder, the NIA had presented a challan against 11 accused Mohsin, Asif, Mohammad Mohsin, Wasim Ali, Farhad Mohammad Sheikh alias Babla, Mohammad Javed, Muslim Mohammad, including the main accused Gaus Mohammad and Mohammad Riyaz Attari, declaring Salman and Abu Ibrahim, residents of Karachi, Pakistan, as absconding. The NIA special court had taken cognizance on 9 February 2023 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Arms Act including murder, terrorist activities, criminal conspiracy. The accused Mohammad Javed was granted bail by the High Court on 5 September 2024. Javed is accused of planning along with Mohammad Riyaz Attari. In this case, before Javed, another accused Farhad Mohammad alias Babla was granted bail by the NIA court on 1 September 2023. The NIA had registered an Arms Act case against Farhad.
