In Balasore, Odisha, a B.Ed. second year student poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire in the college campus. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon at around 1 pm. A student also got burnt while trying to save the girl. The boy and the girl have been admitted to the hospital. The girl is in a critical condition. The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV installed in the Fakir Mohan College campus. The HOD of the B.Ed. department, Sameer Kumar Sahu, has been accused of mental and physical exploitation of the victim as well as other students. A complaint was made against Sahu to the college administration, but when no action was taken, the girl set herself on fire. The entire incident in 5 pictures… Complained to the principal, but no action was taken Actually, some B.Ed. second year students of Fakir Mohan College had complained to the principal against the HOD of the Integrated B.Ed. department, Sameer Kumar Sahu. They said that the HOD mentally exploits them. A student even said that the HOD had even asked her to get physical. A complaint had been made against the HOD earlier as well, but no action was taken. Principal said- The student came to meet, then she set herself on fire. On the incident, college principal Dilip Kumar Ghosh said- On June 30, I received a complaint against HOD Sameer Kumar Sahu. Some girl students told that Sameer Kumar Sahu was mentally harassing them. A girl even said that the teacher had demanded physical relations near the garden. The same day the students had surrounded and the police was called. The principal said that on the demand of the students, we had formed an internal complaint committee. It had senior female teachers, representatives and some external members. The committee had given the report in 7 days. However, some students were demanding immediate action. Today the student came to meet me, I explained to her for 20 minutes, but she started saying that she cannot wait any longer and left from here. After about 15-20 minutes it was found that she had set herself on fire. HOD arrested, principal suspended After the case came to light, the police arrested HOD Sameer Kumar Sahu. The Odisha government has considered this matter as a serious negligence of the college administration and has suspended Principal Ghosh with immediate effect. The order issued by the government states that Principal Ghosh cannot leave the city without permission.
