A case of rape of a student came to light on Saturday at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta. The accused has been arrested. According to the police, the two met on social media. The student had come to IIM to meet the accused for advice on some personal matter. After this, she was taken to the boys hostel, where she was raped. The incident took place on Friday in the boys hostel of the business school. The accused student was taken into custody on Friday night and was arrested today. The victim has stated in the FIR that she was called to the hostel for a counseling session. There she drank a drink, due to which she fainted. When she regained consciousness, she came to know that she had been raped. The victim alleged that the accused had threatened her that if she told this to anyone, she would have to face serious consequences. Police investigation revealed that after the incident, the main accused and his companions drank alcohol for hours in the guard room of the college. Security guard Pinaki Banerjee was threatened not to tell anyone about the incident. After this, they went to eat at a dhaba. Then returned to their respective homes. According to the police, on June 26, the day after the incident, when Manojit Mishra realized the seriousness of the situation, he contacted an influential person living in Deshpriya Park area. The police officer said that Manojit sought help from many people. For this, he roamed around different areas of the city, Rasbihari Avenue, Deshpriya Park, Gariahat, Fern Road and Ballygunge Station Road. Mobile tower location revealed that he had also met someone near Karaya Police Station. Investigation revealed that the entire plan of gangrape was made in advance. The CCTV of the college has footage of about 7 hours from 3:30 pm to 10:50 pm on June 25. An investigating officer said that the incident of forcibly taking the victim student to the guard’s room has been captured in the CCTV. This confirms the allegations made in the written complaint of the student. The rape was also confirmed in the medical report of the victim student on June 28. According to the police, there are marks of force on the victim, biting and scratching with nails on the body.
