South Africa has added Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton to its T20 World Cup squad. They replaced Donovan Ferreira and Tony De Giorgi, who were injured while playing in the SA20 League. The ICC tournament will be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7th. Miller also injured in SA20
Cricket South Africa (CSA) stated on Thursday that both players were given the opportunity due to injury and that there was no last-minute change of squad. David Miller, who played for Paarl Royals in the SA20, was also injured. He will also miss the eliminator against Joburg Super Kings in Centurion. Lungi Ngidi, playing for Pretoria Capitals, also missed his spell in Qualifier 1. Dewald Brewis scored 75 runs off 38 balls while playing for Pretoria Capitals on Sunday, but he also injured his finger. Miller, Ngidi, and Brewis are all part of South Africa’s World Cup squad. Bartman was not included.
CSA decided to retain the injured Ngidi, thus missing SA20’s top wicket-taker, fast bowler Ottniel Bartman, from the World Cup squad. CSA stated that Brewis and Ngidi will be fit soon, but Miller’s injury could be serious. Rickelton will also play against the West Indies.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ryan Rickelton will also play in the three-match T20 series against the West Indies next week. CSA stated that Miller will miss the West Indies series. If the injury is serious, Rubin Harman, who scored 205 runs in eight innings for the Sunrisers in the SA20, could be included in his place. South Africa is in Group D.
South Africa was placed in Group D along with Canada, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and the UAE. The team will play its first match in Ahmedabad on February 9. They will next face Afghanistan on the 11th, New Zealand on the 14th, and the UAE on the 18th. The team will play the first three matches in Ahmedabad and then play the last match of the group stage in Delhi. South Africa’s new squad:
Aiden Markram (captain), Corbin Bosch, Devold Brevis, Quinton de Kock, Marco Jansen, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Kwena Mphaka, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortja, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Jason Smith, and Tristan Stubbs.
