Harsit Rana out of T20 World Cup: Injured in practice match, Siraj returns after 556 days; first match against USA tomorrow

Fast bowler Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026. He suffered a knee injury during the warm-up match against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on February 4. Following consultation with a doctor and scans, the BCCI medical team declared him unfit for the tournament. Pacer Mohammed Siraj has replaced Harshit Rana in the squad. Siraj returns to the Indian team after 556 days. He last played a T20 match against Sri Lanka on July 30, 2024. The tournament, being played in India and Sri Lanka, begins on February 7. Defending champions India will play their first match against the USA on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He then left the field. He also got a chance to bat just once. Harshit, who has taken 9 wickets in 9 matches, has so far played 9 T20 Internationals for India. In these matches, he has scored 57 runs and taken 9 wickets. Meanwhile, there are doubts about the fitness of spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, adding to India’s problems. India defeated South Africa by 30 runs in the warm-up match. In this warm-up match, Ishan Kishan played an innings of 53 runs in 20 balls. Batting first at the DY Patil Stadium, India scored 240 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, the South African team could only manage 210 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
