Tensions have escalated in the Gulf region following the US and Israel’s joint military strike on Iran. In response, the Indian government on Saturday issued an advisory for its citizens living in Gulf countries, including Iran and Israel, urging them to stay at home. Indian embassies in Iran, Israel, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, and Palestine have advised their citizens to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. Indian tourists in Jordan have also been advised to leave the country ahead of potential flight disruptions. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the safety of Indian students studying in Iran. The association has demanded the students’ return. On Saturday morning, Israel attacked several cities, including the Iranian capital, Tehran. In response, Iran launched approximately 400 missiles, targeting Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, US bases in Saudi Arabia, and Dubai. Over 41,000 Indians in Israel The Indian Embassy in Tehran, Iran’s capital, stated in an advisory that over 10,000 Indians were living in Iran as of January. This includes a large number of students pursuing medical and other courses there. Over 41,000 people of Indian origin live in Israel. The embassy has appealed to people to stay informed about their nearest safe shelter and avoid unnecessary travel. It has been said that it is essential to follow the instructions of the local administration in case of any emergency. The government said it is monitoring the situation. The Indian government has stated that it is continuously monitoring the situation in these countries and the embassy is in contact with the local administration. Further action will be taken if necessary. For now, Indian citizens have been urged to remain vigilant instead of panicking, rely only on official information, and contact the relevant embassy immediately in case of any emergency. Concerns about the safety of students have increased. According to the JKSA, a large number of Kashmiri students are pursuing MBBS and other medical courses in Iran. Important national examinations like the Uloompaya and Pre-Internship are scheduled for March 5, 2026, so many students are currently unable to leave the country. The JKSA stated that students are concerned about their safety on one hand, and their studies and future on the other.
