The ongoing war between the US, Israel, and Iran is now impacting Indian maritime trade. Iran has closed the world’s most vital Strait of Hormuz. Consequently, 37 Indian-flagged ships and 1,109 Indian sailors are currently stranded in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. These ships are carrying crude oil and LNG, essential for India. At least three Indian sailors working on the ships have died, while one is injured. Given the gravity of the situation, the Ministry of Shipping has formed a “Quick Response Team,” which will work 24 hours a day to assist the stranded sailors and their families. Over 2,000 Indians returned from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, over 2,100 Indians stranded in the Middle East returned home on Tuesday on seven flights. Due to the airspace closures in several Middle Eastern countries, over 250 international flights were canceled at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai airports. These include 80+ flights from Delhi, 107 from Mumbai, 42 from Bengaluru and 30 from Chennai.
