The Kerala Story 2 has been embroiled in controversy since its trailer was released. Claims are circulating that a court has ordered the film’s teaser to be removed. The makers have now issued a statement, dismissing these reports as baseless. Sunshine Pictures stated, “Reports of the removal of the Kerala Story 2 teaser are completely false and unfounded. This case is currently pending in court. No court has ordered the film’s teaser or any content to be removed. We have also not removed anything. The film’s teaser and trailer are still available on all our official platforms. We request the media and all individuals to refrain from spreading unverified news. A petition has been filed in the Kerala High Court regarding the film’s certification and the alleged misrepresentation of the state of Kerala. The petitioner alleges that the film could harm the state’s image.” During the hearing on Tuesday, the Kerala High Court remarked that Kerala is a peaceful and harmonious state, but the film portrays it in a negative light, which could harm its image. When the case resumed in the afternoon, the court was informed that the film’s makers were willing to withdraw the teaser. Following this, the court determined that the next hearing would be held on Wednesday, when it would decide whether the court would view the film before its February 27th release. However, before the afternoon hearing, the court had stated that it wanted to view the film before passing any order. Furthermore, the court also asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) whether the film complied with all necessary guidelines. In its petition, the petitioner sought changes to certain parts of the film, including a change in its title. The petition stated that the film, while certified for public exhibition by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), allegedly violates the provisions of the Cinematography Act, 1952. According to the complaint, the controversy stems from the film’s teaser and trailer. While these depict stories of women from different states, the film’s title, “Kerala Story,” specifically links issues such as alleged terrorism, forced conversions, and demographic conspiracy to Kerala.
