A blast occurred during fireworks at Anjutambalam Veerarkavu temple in Kasargod, Kerala on Monday night at around 12:30. More than 150 people were injured in this. Kasargod police said that the condition of 8 people is critical, who have been admitted to the hospital. According to media reports, 1500 people had gathered in the temple for the annual Kaliyattam festival. Fireworks were being done here, the spark from which reached the warehouse of firecrackers, where a blast occurred due to fire. Fireworks worth thousands of rupees were kept in this warehouse. Police have taken 2 members of the temple committee into custody regarding the accident. They are being questioned. Police said that the injured have been taken to different hospitals. 3 seriously injured people have been admitted to Pariyaram Medical College and many others to hospitals in Mangalore, Coonoor and Kasargod. Ruling CPI-M MLA M. Rajagopal called the incident very unfortunate. He also spoke to the District Collector to know the cause of the incident. Rajagopal said – I wish the injured a speedy recovery. A woman injured in the accident said that there was a lot of crowd during the fireworks. After the blast, everyone started running away. While running, I and many others fell, due to which I got injured. I had gone to the temple with my sister.
