Sri Lanka has appointed former English batsman Ian Bell as batting coach for the England tour starting on August 21. He will be with the team till the end of the tour. Sri Lanka Cricket said that Ian Bell will join the team from August 16, and will be with the team till the end of the three-Test series. Sri Lanka Cricket Board CEO Ashley de Silva said, ‘We have appointed Ian so that the players can get important information about the conditions there. Ian has a lot of experience playing in England and we believe that his input will help our team in this important tour. ‘ This series is important for both the teams in terms of the World Test Championship 2023-25. Sri Lanka (50 points) is fourth in the WTC standings, while England (36.54 points) is sixth. Sri Lanka will play a 3-Test series in England
The Sri Lankan team’s tour of England is starting from August 21. The team has to play a 3-Test series with the English team there. The first match will be played in Manchester from 21 to 25 August. Bell has scored 22 centuries in Tests.
Former England batsman Ian Bell has played 118 Test matches. He has scored 7727 runs at an average of 42.69. Bell also has 22 Test centuries to his name. Sri Lanka won the ODI series against India after 27 years.
The Sri Lankan team hosted the Indian team in July and August. The host team defeated the Indian team comprising captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli 2-0 in the ODI series. Before this, the young Indian team clean swept Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20 series.
