I kept searching for my son with my family all night, but could not find him. In the morning, the villagers told me that my son’s body was lying in the field. The wolf ate my son’s entire head.’ These words were said by Roli while crying. Roli’s son Ayansh was taken away by a wolf on Monday night. She lives in Khairighat, Bahraich. In 48 hours, 2 people have died here due to wolf attack. In 47 days, a pack of wolves has killed 7 people including 6 children. There is fear of wolves in Mahsi tehsil, 150 km from the capital Lucknow. The terror of wolves was earlier in only 25 villages, but in two days it increased to 35 villages. The fear of wolves is so much that the villagers are keeping watch all night with sticks. About 200 employees of the forest and police department are combing the fields and forests in search of wolves. Mahsi MLA Sureshwar Singh himself searched for the wolf with a gun, but after the attack the wolves ran away into the forest. Wolves are targeting children. Children are falling prey to man-eating wolves more. Earlier on the night of 21 August, a similar incident took place in Basti Gadaria village of Hardi area. 8-year-old granddaughter Khushboo was sleeping between her grandmother and her two young sons. At around 11 pm, the man-eating wolf attacked stealthily. In the blink of an eye, it grabbed Khushboo and ran away. Before the family members could understand anything, it disappeared from sight. The entire village kept searching for the girl throughout the night. Her dead body was found 1 kilometer away in the morning. About 60 percent of her body had been eaten. There are more than 35 villages in Hardi and Khairighat area of Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich, where the population is about 70 thousand. These people are living in fear of man-eating wolves. Silence spreads in Kulela, Makkapurva, Bhatauli, Nakwa, Kumharan Purva after the power goes off at night. People living in fear are not leaving their children alone, they form groups and keep watch at night. The wolf has killed 6 children, has also made a woman its victim. On Tuesday, DM Monica Rani and SP Vrinda Shukla also visited the village. Both the officers went to console Roli, a resident of Rani Khairighat area. They assured that the wolves will be caught soon. The DM said – a new strategy has been made. There are no attacks in the villages where teams were deployed. Now teams will be deployed in this area. The DM appealed to those whose houses are near paddy or sugarcane fields to be cautious. It has been seen that there has been no attack on animals and goats. 9 teams of the forest department are engaged in catching the wolves. According to the forest department, an area of 35 kilometers is affected by wolf attacks. 200 employees of 9 teams of the forest department are engaged in catching the wolves. Apart from this, 3 DFOs (Barabanki, Katarnia Ghat, Bahraich) have also been deployed. Four wolves were captured in drone cameras. The forest department is also monitoring through CCTV and drone cameras in search of man-eating animals. During the search operation 4 days ago, 4 wolves were captured in the drone camera of the forest department. The forest department team searched for wolves around the location, but could not find them anywhere. However, people of the surrounding village say that there are 8 to 10 wolves in this area. BJP MLA combing with a gun Seeing the fear among the public, Mahsi’s BJP MLA Sureshvar Singh has also picked up a gun. He is combing with the villagers with a rifle. So far 3 wolves have been caught. On August 18, 2024, a wolf was trapped in a cage in Sisayya Chudamani of Hardi area. Earlier, a male wolf was captured in a cage in Kulela village.
