Two prisoners escaped from jail during Ramlila enactment in Haridwar. Both were playing the role of monkeys on Friday night. The episode of search for Sita was going on. The monkey army had set out to search for Sita. As soon as they got the chance, both reached near the under-construction high-security barrack. They escaped by jumping over the 22 feet high wall with the help of the ladder kept there. The jail officers came to know about the incident when the prisoners were counted. After this, a search was conducted throughout the night, but both the prisoners could not be found. The incident took place in Roshnabad jail. The jail is spread over 8 to 10 acres. About 1400 prisoners are lodged here. The prisoners have been identified as Pankaj, a resident of Roorkee in Uttarakhand and Rajkumar, a resident of Gonda in UP. Pankaj was serving life sentence in a murder case. He is also associated with the Balmiki group. Rajkumar, on the other hand, is under trial in a kidnapping case. CCTV was checked, but the prisoners were not found
A senior officer of the jail administration said- After the Ramlila ended, the prisoners were being counted inside the barracks. During this, two prisoners were found missing. After this, they were searched inside the jail. The jail administration kept searching for the prisoners on its own till late night. The CCTV footage installed in the jail was checked. A prisoner said- When both the prisoners ran away, the employees of the jail administration were busy watching Ramlila. Both the prisoners escaped from the jail by climbing a ladder. Haridwar police and jail administration were busy searching for the prisoners throughout the night. The activities of the prisoners were looking suspicious for many days. They were trying to escape for many days. DM said- Departmental and magistrate investigation will be done
Haridwar DM Karmendra Singh and SSP Parmendra Doval inspected the jail. DM expressed displeasure over how the prisoners escaped from the jail premises. SSP said- Today at 6 am, the police control room received information about two prisoners escaping. After this, the police raided the surrounding area, but both could not be found. Taking advantage of the Ramlila performance, both the prisoners escaped. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, a case has been registered at Sidkul police station.
