Place: Kashi Date: 20 October 2024 ‘Dynastic politics is a big threat to India today. Dynastic politics harms the youth of the country the most. They do not believe in giving opportunities to the youth. That is why I have called from the Red Fort that I will bring one lakh such youth of the country into politics whose family has nothing to do with politics.’ PM Narendra Modi ‘Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) believes in dynastic politics, that is why it has fielded party leader Hemant Soren, wife Kalpana Soren and brother Basant Soren in the election.’ Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam CM and BJP leader ‘Those who call the tradition of struggle, service and sacrifice of generations as dynastic politics are distributing the will of power to their ‘government family’. This is what Narendra Modi calls the difference between words and actions!’ Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition and Congress MP, 11 June 2024 Dynasty, legacy, dynastic politics. These words are often heard more in politics. Whenever elections come, political parties make such allegations and counter-allegations against each other, but the reality is the opposite. The crop of dynasty, legacy, kinship and relations is flourishing once again in the electoral field of Jharkhand Assembly. No party is an exception in this matter. In the distribution of tickets, the factor of nepotism has dominated this time also over the parameters of dedication, loyalty and ground struggle towards the party and ideology. Nearly one-third of the seats of Congress are occupied by families. If we look at the ticket distribution, Congress has fielded the most number of family members of politicians on nearly one-third of its quota seats. Congress is contesting on 30 seats, in which 9 tickets have been given to the family members of politicians. On the other hand, JMM has fielded family leaders on 9 out of 43 tickets. Out of these, three seats are of Shibu Soren’s family. On the other hand, BJP is contesting on 68 seats, out of which 18 tickets have been given to the family members of politicians. 6 daughters-in-law are handling the political legacy In this election, 2 daughters-in-law of former Chief Minister Shibu Soren are in the fray. JMM has fielded Kalpana Soren, wife of Shibu’s son Hemant Soren, from Gandey seat. At the same time, BJP has given ticket to his elder daughter-in-law Sita Soren from Jamtara. Apart from this, Purnima Das, daughter-in-law of former Chief Minister and currently Odisha Governor Raghuvar Das, is also in the fray from Jamshedpur East seat on BJP ticket. Savita Mahato, daughter-in-law of martyr Nirmal Mahato, has been given ticket by JMM from Ichagarh seat. Her husband late Sudhir Mahato has been Deputy CM. Deepika Pandey, daughter-in-law of Awadh Bihari Singh, who was a strong leader of United Bihar, is again in the fray from Mahagama. In 2019 also, she has won the election on a Congress ticket. She was a minister in the Hemant government. At the same time, RJD has fielded Satyanand Bhokta’s daughter-in-law Rashmi Prakash from Chatra (reserved) seat. Since Bhokta’s caste was excluded from SC by the Central Government in 2022. After this, he and his son can no longer contest elections from Chatra. That is why he has fielded his daughter-in-law. Rashmi comes from the Dalit class. Shweta Singh, daughter-in-law of late Samaresh Singh from Bokaro, has been fielded by the Congress at the last moment. She has also contested elections in 2019. At that time, she lost the election by 13 thousand votes. Nepotism in Bihar by-elections too By-elections are being held on four seats in Bihar, where voting will take place on November 13. In this too, from the ruling party to the opposition, only relatives of politicians have been fielded. I.N.D.I.A has given tickets to family members on two out of four seats and NDA Alliance has given tickets to family members on three seats. Nepotism is increasing in the desire for winning candidates Senior journalist Chandan Mishra, an expert on Jharkhand politics, says, ‘These days every party is looking for winning candidates in elections. This is the reason why all parties are seen giving more preference to families. Whereas, normally this should not happen. This breaks the morale of the workers. However, the final decision has to be taken by the public.
