Due to rising pollution and low visibility in Amritsar, Punjab, the traffic of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport has been severely affected. On Monday, three flights landing at Amritsar Airport had to be diverted to Chandigarh due to poor visibility. These flights included an international flight as well as two domestic flights. The pollution level in Amritsar rose to 336 AQI on Saturday afternoon. The air quality in Amritsar and its surrounding areas has become very poor, due to which visibility has decreased drastically. The pollution level is continuously reaching dangerous levels, which is also affecting flight operations. Keeping in mind the safety of passengers, the airport authority decided to send these flights to Chandigarh. Which flights were affected – Pollution level reached 336 AQI The air quality (Air Quality Index) level in Amritsar has reached 336, which falls in the “very poor” category. Toxic particles present in the air at this level can cause difficulty in breathing, eye irritation and lung-related diseases. The reasons for the increase in air pollution are believed to be the firecrackers burst on Diwali, burning of stubble, traffic pollution and stable weather conditions. Due to these conditions, landing of aircraft at Amritsar airport has become a challenge. Inconvenience of passengers and response of airlines – The passengers had to face inconvenience in Chandigarh due to this diversion. The airlines provided necessary services to the passengers at Chandigarh airport and arrangements for further travel were made. The passengers complained that they were suddenly informed about the diversion, which increased the trouble in traveling.
