Iran’s Nobel laureate Nargis Mohammadi released from jail: 3 weeks bail; was sentenced to 31 years for speaking against hijab

Iran’s Nobel Prize-winning women’s rights activist and journalist Nargis Mohammadi, who was in jail, has been released on bail for 3 weeks. Nargis has been in jail since November 2021. She was arrested by the Iranian government for campaigning against the death penalty and hijab. Nargis was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for raising her voice for women’s freedom and their rights. Information about Nargis’ release has been posted by her lawyer Mustafa Neeli on social media platform X. The post states that on the advice of doctors, the government has suspended Nargis’ sentence for 3 weeks. She has also been released. Nargis’ family and supporters have expressed displeasure over her release for just 3 weeks. According to the Nobel Prize website, Nargis Mohammadi was first jailed in 2011 for trying to help imprisoned activists and their families. Nargis has not met her children for 8 years In an interview given to the New York Times in June last year, Nargis had said that she has not seen her children for 8 years. She last heard the voice of her twin daughters Ali and Kiana a year ago. Both of Nargis’s daughters live in France with her husband Tagi Rahmani. Actually, Tagi is also a political activist.
