Catholic Christian religious leader Pope Francis has died at the age of 88. According to the Vatican, the Pope breathed his last at 7:35 am local time today. Pope Francis was the first Latin American Pope in history. The Indian Home Ministry has announced 3 days of national mourning on the death of the Pope. The first two days of national mourning will be on 22 and 23 April, while the third day of national mourning will be on the day of the funeral. According to Italian media, the Pope died due to a brain stroke. The stroke caused bleeding in his brain. On February 14, he was also admitted to a hospital in Rome due to a lung infection. The Pope’s body will be placed in a coffin at the Vatican at 11:30 pm tonight. Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell will place the Pope’s body in the coffin at his St. Martha residence in the Vatican. His body can be placed in St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday. Pope Francis was the first non-European in 1300 years to be elected Pope. The Pope took major decisions like allowing homosexuals to come to church, blessing same-sex couples, giving religious approval to remarriage.
