‘Jab We Met’ is one of the most talked about romantic films of Bollywood. This film was not only a hit, but the chemistry of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor and the direction of Imtiaz Ali are still popular among the audience. But very few people know that this film started with the hard work of Bobby Deol. Recently, during a conversation, Bobby told that this is the same film which he tried to make himself. From getting the story written to finding a producer, he tried everything possible. But when the film was made, he was not in it. Saw ‘Socha Na Tha’ and called Imtiaz Ali Bobby said, ‘I saw Imtiaz’s work for the first time in the rush print of ‘Socha Na Tha’. Abhay Deol was in it. I liked it very much, I said you write a story for me. And the story he wrote, later became ‘Jab We Met’. He himself brought the producer, talked to Kareena, but still the film slipped out of his hands. Bobby further said, ‘I tried very hard to make this film. Talked to many people, even Kareena. She refused at first. Then I talked to Preity Zinta, but she also refused. Then Kareena agreed. I talked to Shri Ashtavinayak, I said this boy (Imtiaz) is very good, make a film with him. But then I was removed from the film.’ ‘I was heartbroken, but I have no resentment towards Imtiaz’ Bobby said, ‘I was very upset at that time. This happens in the industry. But I think whatever Imtiaz did, he must have taken the right decision for the film. I have no resentment towards him.’
