Powerful earthquake of 7.5 magnitude hits Argentina: Tsunami warning; 3 major aftershocks also occurred in 15 minutes

A powerful earthquake of 7.5 magnitude has struck the South American country Argentina. Due to this, a tsunami warning has been issued. This earthquake occurred at 6:30 pm Indian time. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Drake Passage in the sea, 222 km away from the southern state of Ushuaia in Argentina, whose depth was 10 km. According to the US Geological Survey, 3 aftershocks of 5.4, 5.7 and 5.6 magnitude also occurred at the same place in 15 minutes. Let us tell you that Drake Passage is the sea area between Cape Horn of South America, Chile, Argentina and South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. The administration has asked people to go to higher places. Tsunami warning sirens have started ringing in the affected areas. No casualties have been reported so far. A day earlier also, an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude had struck Argentina. The southern coast of Chile is being evacuated. The coastal areas of Argentina’s neighboring country Chile have also been put on alert. The warning said that the waves could reach Puerto Williams in Chile. Chile’s National Disaster Service has asked to evacuate the entire southern coast. For this, instructions have been given to the local authorities. Chile’s President Gabriel Boric said that the country has all the resources to deal with the earthquake. He said in a social media post that we appeal to the people to move away from the beach in the Magallanes area. At this time we have to follow the instructions of the officials completely. America’s tsunami warning system will issue a warning again in the next one hour. Earthquakes occur due to the collision of tectonic plates. The earth is located on large tectonic plates. There is liquid lava beneath it. These plates keep floating and sometimes collide with each other. Due to the collision, the corners of the plates sometimes bend and when there is more pressure, these plates start breaking. In such a situation, the energy coming out from below finds a way to come out and after this disturbance an earthquake occurs. When tectonic plates move several miles below the Earth, energy equivalent to hundreds of atomic bombs is released.
