NIA took voice and handwriting samples of Tehvvur: Court had given permission 3 days ago; Mumbai attack mastermind is in 12-day custody

NIA on Saturday (3 May) took samples of voice and handwriting of Mumbai attack mastermind Tahawwur Rana. For this sample, Rana was presented before Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Kumar. Here Rana was made to write many letters and numbers. 3 days ago on 30 April, the court had given permission to take samples of Rana’s voice and handwriting on NIA’s request. Earlier on 28 April, Special NIA Judge Chander Jeet Singh had sent Rana to 12 days custody. NIA brought Tahawwur Rana from America to India on 10 April in a special plane. On 10 April, Special NIA Judge Chandrajit Singh sent him to 18 days custody. This was again extended for 12 days. Tahawwur was arrested by American agency FBI in October 2009 in Chicago, America. He was accused of providing the necessary material to carry out the 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai and Copenhagen. The court has rejected the petition to talk to the family. Earlier, on April 24, the Patiala House Court had rejected Tahawwur Rana’s petition demanding to talk to the family. Rana’s lawyer Piyush Sachdeva had argued that as a foreign citizen, he has a fundamental right to talk to his family. His family is worried about his treatment. However, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) opposed it citing the investigation and said that Rana could reveal sensitive information. After this, Special NIA Justice Chander Jeet Singh decided to reject Tahawwur Rana’s petition. Officials said on April 26 that Mumbai Police Crime Branch officials interrogated Tahawwur Rana at the NIA office in Delhi. Rana was interrogated for eight hours on April 23. During this time he evaded giving answers and did not help. Rana was a doctor in the Pakistani army and a Canadian citizen. 64-year-old Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin. Rana worked as a doctor in the Pakistani army. After this, he went to Canada in 1997 and started working as a businessman providing immigration services there. From Canada, he reached America and opened a consultancy firm named First World Immigration Services at many locations including Chicago. According to American court documents, Rana had also visited Canada, Pakistan, Germany and England many times. He can speak about 7 languages. Rana is a childhood friend of Mumbai attack mastermind David Headley. David Headley was the mastermind of the Mumbai attack. Tahawwur was his childhood friend, who helped him in carrying out this attack. Rana knew that Headley was working with Lashkar-e-Taiba. By helping Headley and providing him financial assistance, Rana was supporting the terrorist organization and the terrorists along with him. Rana knew whom Headley was meeting and what he was talking about. He also knew the planning of the attack and the names of some targets. Tahawwur Rana was arrested by the FBI in 2009. Rana was convicted for supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba in the US. Till now he was lodged in a detention center in Los Angeles. On 26 November 2008, 10 terrorists of the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked Mumbai. These attacks lasted for four days.
